Dear Plotholder and AVAA Member,
AVAA MEMBERS QUESTIONNAIRE Web Questionnaire – table format.rtf
Please download and complete the questionnaire to help us represent you as well as possible in framing a long-term vision for our site and its surroundings.
The Ashley vale Allotment Association Ltd (AVAA) manages one of the oldest allotment sites in Bristol, through an association with a constitution dating back to the early part of the last century. The Council wants to support allotments and green spaces as part of its ‘Sustainable City’ brand, but we are all familiar with the development pressures in this increasingly desirable area, most recently highlighted in the demise of the Ashley Court Hotel and the new houses at the top of our site.
On the other hand, recent sustainable development on neighbouring sites, at Narrow Ways, The City Farm, the AVAG Self-build site, the community garden and the Home Zone on Mina Road, have turned Ashley Vale into a green lung within a densely populated inner-city area. This unique setting of a group of ‘green’ and sustainable developments and projects has open up potential for merging our individual activities together over time into a commonly-shared long-term vision for the valley.
Both of these considerations point to new challenges for Ashley Vale in a post credit crunch, post climate change world. It could secure a sustainable future by celebrating it’s contribution to local food, education, outdoor activity, vibrant community life and urban bio-diversity.
Over the autumn and winter AVAA will be working with our neighbouring organisations to see how we can move forward together and consulting widely with local residents and groups about the future of Ashley Vale. But we want to begin with our own members.
The questions in the questionnaire are in two parts. The first section asks for your views about the neighbourhood and wider area, the second is concerned more specifically with our own allotment site and AVAA’s activities. Please provide as much information as you can. Text boxes should expand to fit whatever you want to write.
Please e-mail the completed questionnaire back to AVAA at questions@eyehouse.info. Alternatively you can post the completed questionnaire in the new letter box on the committee room door on the site, or bring the completed questionnaire with you when you pay your rent or post it together with the rent cheque.
Every completed questionnaire entitles you to £5 of credit at the site shop. (remember to put your name on it if you want the voucher)
In parallel with our own consultation . Bristol City Council are also consulting on allotments across Bristol. If you have time, please also complete their on-line questionnaire at
